¡Buenas tardes!
¡Buenos tardes!
Our first subject is the phrase buenas tardes, which translates to good afternoon. This phrase is an odd one, because it’s not always clear when it turns into buenas noches (good evening/night).
In both Spain and Latin America it’s common practice to say buenas tardes until relatively late in the evening (8 or 9 PM).
Before you start, take note of the following adjective endings of buen:
- buenos días = good morning
- buenas tardes = good afternoon
- buenas noches = good evening/night
So only días goes with buenos. The other two use buenas! That's because días is a masculine noun and tardes and noches are feminine nouns! We'll get to that in more detail in upcoming lessons.
